Tennessee Volunteers Bake Up a Storm!

Br_pic_2_2 On July 19, more then a dozen people convened in Franklin, Tennessee, to enjoy gluten-free cupcakes and other cupcakes! The fantastic host, Brooks Reid, did all the baking for her grateful guests, who enjoyed Chinese Chicken Salad and sandwiches while the cupcakes were in the oven.  Then they all got to decorate and enjoy! There were several mothers present with their young children, who were all very surprised to learn that gluten-free cupcakes could be so yummy! Here's what some of them had to say...

"This has opened their eyes and tummys to our better-for-you and better-tasting world." - Brooks

According to her mom, Christina, who put the whole thing together, a fabulous time was had by all.  She also says they intend to continue having cupcake parties every year for Eva's birthday, who has celiac disease.  What a great way to celebrate such a special day and to raise celiac awareness! Celiac was the hot topic at Digestive Disease Week 2008 in San Diego this past May thanks to NFCA's fabulous volunteers! Julie Neimark, Christi Bonslaver, Samantha Wuerhmann and Rachel Bielik spent the week handing out information on the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness and resources for newly diagnosed celiac patients.  They spoke with thousands of doctors from around the world about celiac, what advice they give their patients and what life is like for those wirh celiac.  Because of their work to raise awareness among this community, these doctor's patients will quickly discover that being diagnosed with celiac is not the end of the world.  Thank you Julie, Christi, Samantha and Rachel, for helping celiac reach Platinum status!
